Ready to switch up your style? Bored of sporting the same necklace 24/7? Looking to add some pizzazz to your jewellery stash without smashing your piggy bank? Look no further than jewellery layering!
But what exactly is jewellery layering? Simply put, it's the art of wearing multiple necklaces of varying lengths and styles at the same time. Sounds simple right? And actually i really is, as long as you follow some simple theories. I like think there are no rules in wearing jewellery, but there are some theories that will help you look very put together. Layering necklaces adds depth and texture to your outfit, and it allows you to show off a few of your favourite pieces at once.
And, according to a recent survey, layering is becoming increasingly popular among fashion-savvy individuals. In fact, over 40% of women are now layering their necklaces on a regular basis. It's no wonder why - layering allows for endless combinations and versatility, making it perfect for both day-to-day wear and special occasions.
So how do you go about layering your necklaces? There are several key tips to keep in mind.
Firstly, choose necklaces of varying lengths - layering a choker with a longer pendant creates a visually appealing contrast.
Secondly, mix and match styles - pairing a delicate chain with a chunky pendant adds depth and texture.
Finally, don't be afraid to experiment - there are no rules when it comes to layering, so play around with different combinations until you find your ideal look. And you know me - if it feels good - DO IT!
If you're new to the world of layering, don't worry - I've got you covered. Here are some popular combinations to get you started:
1. The Classic Three-NecklaceSet: This consists of a choker, a mid-length necklace and a long pendant. This is a timeless combination that works well with any outfit.
2. The Chunky + Delicate Combo: Layer a simple dainty necklace with a bold statement piece to create a contrast in styles.
3. The Mix-and-Match Set: Combine different styles and lengths of necklaces for a more unique look. Try layering a beaded necklace with a delicate chain or a lariat necklace with a pendant.
As a self-proclaimed jewellery mixologist, I'm always on the lookout for new ways to spruce up an outfit. My own approach to layering jewellery centres around creating a story... sound interesting? Well keep reading...
I like to start my necklace stack by deciding on what type of story I am feeling today; it can be as simple as colour story (i.e. is it pink, it is purple, it is silver, gold etc, or more complicated like a nautical pirate shipwreck, or celestial shaman energy, if you can think it you can create it!
The possibilities are endless when it comes to layering jewellery - you can go from simple to statement, classic to modern - you name it.
Need some 'beginner' level combinations for you to try out? I've got you covered!
1. Mixed chains: This is a great way to add texture and shine to any outfit. Layer different lengths and styles of chain necklaces for a unique look. You can stick to single tone or mix, one of my favourite combinations is silver and rose gold, or gold and black. If you fancy creating a look like that a good place to look are my instagram lives, I often have fun and unusual vintage chains on offer that you can mix and match with your own. It's every Thursday at 7:30pm, don't be shy it's fun!
2. Multi necklace: This one is super simple, pick several necklaces with varying lengths, such as a figaro chain necklace, a ball chain necklace, and a coin necklace, allow about 2 inches or so breathing space in between and you're ready to shine. You can try this with your pill pendant necklaces if you happen to have more than one from my shop.
3. Add a layering necklace: This is one of my favourite pieces, I have - it's bold but still delicate enough to wear every day. My layering chains are designed for an instant layered look all you need is one other necklace, that could be something you already own or you can pretty much pick any of the ones in my shop.
4. Gemstone necklaces: Now this is a trend that not many in the UK have jumped on... I predict this will be huge as it is already taking USA jewellery by storm - gemstones are the perfect way to add a touch of healing energy to your look regardless of whether you believe in it or not, if you do check out the metaphysical properties of each stone, if you don't well just enjoy the injection of dopamine you get from wearing colour - pro note: layer with other necklaces to create a powerful combo. 5. Gold star necklace: Now I have a few options for this in my store April Necklace, Sparkly Star Necklace and Classic S22 Star Carabiner Necklace - all are timeless classics that look great layered with other pieces. Try layering them with a dainty layering chain for a total pro layering look.
No matter how you choose to layer your jewellery, it's important to have fun and experiment with different styles and combinations - you never know what look you'll create!
One thing to keep in mind when you are just staring out with layering your necklaces is to not go overboard - stick to two to three necklaces at most to avoid looking cluttered. And don't forget to consider the colours and materials of your necklaces to make sure they complement each other.
In conclusion, jewellery layering is a fun and creative way to add some personality to your outfit. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, there's no wrong way to layer your necklaces. So go ahead and experiment with different styles and combinations - who knows? You might just discover your new signature look.
More is more, less is a bore!
